Hello people!
As I've scoured the internet in the past few weeks frantically trying to gain support (mentally and academically) I've noticed a trend with a good number of teaching blogs...not many are written by the "career changers." Most of the blogs I've seen are from people who went to school specifically for education, and they know their stuff. I find really wonderful lesson ideas and worksheets, but what I'm missing is the teacher support. So you got through the first day, what happen's next? How do you problem solve when you don't have the background knowledge from education courses?
Now I'm not saying I don't know what I'm doing. My students are not disadvantaged by my alternative path that has led me to be their teacher. I have to take more steps, both backwards and forwards, to create my lesson plans. I'm actually quite happy to learn this way. Both my students and I are in this first year together. I am their model as much as they are mine.
My background is this: I was a film major, history minor. I am a city hopper. I have worked in a tech office in Brooklyn to an insurance company in Atlanta. I am meant to teach history to middle and high school students but I am teaching kindergarten.
They keep me on my toes, make me laugh, panic (internally of course, they can't see that), and bring joy to my heart when they remember little things. And it's just day two. Stay tuned!
